Power-hungry murderous villain left bloody trail on his way to win leadership of the state. Denver PD Homicide detective John "Beck" Stryker teamed with Minneapolis FBI Profiler Zachary Littman to solve the case. The mutual attractions from the past ignited amid the shooting, murder-frame, ex's bashing, drugs, nightmares, closeted ex, and demised partner's family.
A not out Beck seemed to have good rapport with his Captain but sort of distancing himself from the rest of the squad after the shooting that killed his partner and best friend, Dan Halliday. Dumped by his deep in the closet fellow detective lover, Beck vowed never to let his heart engaged again.
Special Agent Dr. Zach Littman was out, a year out of relationship but still on good term with his on-and-off drug addict ex, and eighteen months away from the last interview going to hell accident that damaging his sight.
So, the good side had A LOT of baggage before plunging into the case.
And the bad guy had grey past which got darker and grimmer with further revealings. No redeeming quality whatsoever. Readers could guest the end result of this good and evil war.
Still, a quite intriguing read. 3.5 stars
